To measure your success, our teachers structure your classes based on your learning style.Homework is optional, and if you would like, take periodic written or oral exams in the form of tests, games, and conversation. Although the teachers do not pressure you to study, you will be motivated when you see how much you improve each day!

Classes in my home/school last 4 -5 hours and you can choose either morning or afternoon sessions depending on your personal daily schedule. Classes are tailored to your learning requirements and service schedule.Typically, students choose to study Monday through Friday.

    • Classes + Homestay (3 meals daily) with Guatemalan Family (One student/couple per family)

Also specify your current Spanish speaking level as either a beginner, intermediate or advanced and any special areas you would like to concentrate on learning. Gladis Castillo de Benavides, the school’s director, or another teacher will administer an assessment test your first day of class. Together, you will review the results and plan your personalized, learning Spanish itinerary at El Mundo En Español based on your interests and other factors such as length of stay and service schedule.

To learn Spanish more effectively, it is better to live with a Guatemalan family, as it is a very important part of the educational experience. This provides students with opportunities to practice their language skills and learn more about the people, culture and life in Guatemala. This is also a very economical way to get a totally natural experience.

Our family is always sharing with other relatives and friends. That is to say you are going to adapt us perfectly. We are blessed with a large and beautiful house and are always willing to receive guests. I have two daughters. My oldest daughter is Helga who is married to Mark and has a daughter named Sofia. Their beautiful family lives in England, but visit the house in Guatemala when the opportunity arises. My second daughter is Astrid who assists me in directing the school and functions of the house. My younger brother Eduardo lives in the house next to ours with his wife Cyndi and their daughter Andreita. Another brother of mine, Paco, also lives in Xela and visits the house frequently with his family, Elisa and Ana Elisa. We also consider our dear Dorita Vasquez to be part of our family. She helps maintain a beautiful house and keeps us well fed with her delicious food. And I’m Gladis, Director of the school. I am currently out of the country living with my husband in Texas.

Our school places great emphasis on the positive experiences of staying with a family in Xela. So we have a very careful selection of other suitable families and homes. The houses are clean, have hot water and all are very close to the school and also from Central Park. Families provide three nutritious meals a day, seven days a week. It is easy to accommodate vegetarians and other dietary specifications.
